“Family Ties and Other Attachments” features a selection of photographs from the larger ongoing series “Family Album” by Slovak artist Zuzana Pustaiová. Taking old photographs of her grandparents and parents when they still were young, Zuzana physically alters these images in a multitude of ways: she cuts through them, or punches a myriad of small holes into their surface, she sews on them or covers parts of them with paint, additional paper layers or small everyday items such as stickers, toothpicks, gauze, lace paper doilies, bells, paper clips or even cutlery. In doing so, the artist creates an intricate and intimate dialogue between then and now, between her family and herself.
